About the project
ECO Auto Recovery & Transport is a UK registered vehicle recovery and transport company. Its platform connects customers with recovery services through a structured digital booking and payment experience.
My role
Technical Management / Software Engineering.
I provided technical management for the development of the platform, translating the company's operational requirements into a digital product structure. I worked across the product workflows, technical requirements, integrations and operational systems behind booking, dispatch, payments and tracking, applying software, automation and systems thinking to connect the business with its technology.
Features
A quote is itemised before anything is booked: the base call out, mileage priced per mile, a surcharge for the vehicle type, and any weekend or bank holiday uplift, added to a total the customer sees in full.
The customer gives where the vehicle is, where it is going and what it is, and the platform returns a price. The quote carries the time it is valid until and states that the price will not change if it is booked before it expires.
Recovery is carried out by drivers the platform has vetted rather than whoever is nearest, which is what the booking is promising when it assigns one.
Once a driver is assigned the customer can follow them on the way, so waiting at the roadside does not also mean waiting without information.
Payment is authorised through Stripe when the booking is confirmed, and the card is only charged once the recovery is complete.
The service covers nights and weekends, because a breakdown does not wait for office hours. The pricing reflects it rather than hiding it, with the out of hours uplift shown on the quote.
The product
The platform is a booking and payment product rather than a brochure. A customer enters where they are, where the vehicle is going and what it is, and the platform returns a quote before anything is committed to: a base call out, mileage priced per mile, a vehicle surcharge and any weekend or bank holiday uplift, itemised and totalled.
The quote is time limited and states that the price will not change if it is booked before it expires. Payment is authorised through Stripe and the card is only charged once the recovery is complete. Around that sit the parts a recovery job needs: vetted drivers, live tracking of the assigned driver, and cover through the night and at weekends.
